Our take

What the Yeti PRO 4000 is good at, and what to watch for

KiloHour take Suits home backup through a transfer switch, where 3,600W output and up to 20 kWh of expansion matter, but at 115.7 lb it is portable only on wheels.

The Yeti PRO 4000 is Goal Zero's home-backup model, with 3,994Wh of LiFePO4, 3,600W of continuous output and a 7,200W surge. Goal Zero lists 2,400W for a single standard outlet and 3,600W for the TT-30R outlet and the Power+ port. Paired with Goal Zero's Haven 10 Manual Transfer Switch, it can back up as many as 10 home circuits. Goal Zero says it runs almost any home appliance aside from air conditioning.

Charging and expansion are its strengths. The HPP input accepts solar input of 3,000W at 13.3 to 150V, which Goal Zero says charges it from 0 to 80 percent in under 90 minutes, while AC charging is 1,800W, 0 to 80 percent in 2 hours. Up to four Tank PRO 4000 batteries take it as high as 20 kWh, per Goal Zero, and the user guide lists automatic switching from grid to battery in under 15 ms.

The cost is weight. It weighs 115.7 lb (52.5 kg), or 125.7 lb with its cart, so it is portable only in the wheeled sense. Recharging from a car outlet takes about 37 hours, and the 275W 8mm input is a small second path for solar. Its DC ports include a 100W USB-C port, two 30W USB-C ports, three 18W USB-A ports, a 405W 12V High Power Port and a 162W auxiliary port. Cells are rated for 4,000 cycles with a five-year warranty, and Goal Zero says its app is required.

Up to 3,000 W of panels. A single 200 W panel needs about 5.4 sunny days; panels at the full 3,000 W need about 1.8 peak-sun hours. Panels are assumed to deliver 75% of their rating.

Can the Yeti PRO 4000 run a CPAP overnight?

Yes: 9 nights of 8 hours from a CPAP drawing 34 W with its heated humidifier and tube on (ResMed's measured figure).

How many watts can the Yeti PRO 4000 power?

3,600 W continuous. Motor starts can briefly pull up to 7,200 W.

Does the Yeti PRO 4000 work as a UPS?

Goal Zero lists a 15 ms switchover when wall power drops.
