Our take
What the Explorer 1000 Plus is good at, and what to watch for
KiloHour take Pick it if you want more output and twice the solar input of the Explorer 1000 v2, but it weighs 32 lb and its add-on battery pack has been discontinued.
The Explorer 1000 Plus carries 1,264Wh of LiFePO4 and three AC outlets rated at 2,000W continuous with a 4,000W surge peak. Next to the Explorer 1000 v2, it has more capacity (1,264Wh against 1,070Wh), more output (2,000W against 1,500W) and twice the solar input (800W against 400W). The cost is weight: 32 lb (14.5 kg) against 23.8 lb.
That 800W of solar comes in through two 8mm ports, each up to 11A at 12 to 60V. Jackery's spec table lists 1.7 hours on the wall and 7 hours from the car. The port mix is wide, with two 100W USB-C, two 18W USB-A and a 12V 10A car port, plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth app control.
Expansion needs a caveat. Jackery's page says capacity can grow to 5 kWh with up to three battery packs, but the same page now states that the Battery Pack 1000 Plus has been discontinued, so plan around the built-in 1,264Wh unless you already own packs.
As backup, the manual says it switches to battery within 20 ms and should not be used for data servers or workstations that need uninterrupted power. The cells are rated for 4,000 cycles to 70 percent capacity, a lower end point than the 80 percent many rivals quote, with a 3+2 year warranty from jackery.com.
