Our take

What the Explorer 5000 Plus is good at, and what to watch for

KiloHour take Suits whole-home outage backup with 240V appliances and transfer-switch wiring, but it weighs 134.5 lb and needs a second unit to reach Jackery's 60kWh expansion figure.

The Explorer 5000 Plus is Jackery's home backup flagship: 5,040Wh of LiFePO4 with 7,200W continuous and a 14,400W surge rating at 120V or 240V. Besides four 120V 20A outlets, it has NEMA L14-30R and 14-50 outlets for 240V loads, which Jackery says can cover a 5-ton air conditioner or a water heater. Paired with Jackery's Smart Transfer Switch, it can feed up to 12 circuits at 120V or 6 at 240V.

In the default backup mode it switches in under 20 ms, and the manual describes an online UPS mode, enabled in the app or by pressing the DC and AC buttons together, that removes the switchover gap entirely.

The page says it is expandable up to 60kWh, but its FAQ puts one station with five Battery Pack 5000 Plus units at 30kWh, the most a single unit can hold; the 60kWh figure assumes two stations and ten packs linked through the Smart Transfer Switch.

A high-voltage MC4 input takes 135 to 450V, and two low-voltage 8mm inputs add up to 1,200W. Jackery's feature text claims up to 4000W input, while the spec table gives no single solar maximum. AC charging takes 3.5 hours.

The trade-offs are size and noise: 134.5 lb (61 kg), and 51.7 dB at full load against 30 dB in Quiet Mode. Cells are rated for 4,000 cycles to 70 percent capacity, with a 5-year warranty for direct purchases.
